Karl Kampenhout Builders built our ‘Dream Home’ for us in 2005-2006. Having lived overseas for several years we knew exactly what style of family home we wanted and Karl’s finished product surpassed our expectations.
Having been told that building could be a stressful experience we found that working with Karl and his team was an enjoyable and extremely satisfying time.

ECO HOUSE
We employed Karl Kampenhout Builders over the 2008 and 2009 period to build our eco-house in a central suburb of Hamilton. Our aim was to build the most sustainable house possible in an urban setting. We already had a comprehensive design and knew that it would require a building team that would go beyond a standard building approach. We chose Karl because when we sat down to discuss this project with him in detail, he was very receptive, having a considered response to the unique design challenges we had.
Entrusting the responsibility of your number one asset is always a nerve-wracking process, but it turned out to be a pleasant and remarkably smooth experience, which is all the more impressive given the many unusual design features we had. Some of the design features included: double stud wall, fully insulated concrete stab, highly efficient joinery that was the first to be installed in the Waikato region, and a fully onsite water and waste system.
For us, the stand-out characteristics that Karl and his team brought to the project were:

Our boatshed/studio project with Karl Kampenhout is almost complete and we have been so pleased with the high standard of workmanship of Karl and his team that we would like to recommend him to anyone considering taking on a builder and project manager.
Some of the many positive points we found when working with Karl and his team are:
• Karl put in a lot of time and effort listening to what we wanted. He showed us around some of his previous projects, gave us samples of materials or told us where we could go to view materials or designs. The listening and advising did not stop throughout the entire project and it has been much appreciated.
• Karl has been our project manager and this was incredibly helpful even with liaising with our architect, engineers, and with Peter, who did the electrical installation. Having Karl organise all the “when things get done” and “what is needed soon” left us totally free to carry on with our work commitments and busy lives. Subcontractors turned up when required and the project moved along at a good pace without us having to do anything.
• We were always welcome on site and felt that we could voice any concerns and they would be dealt with promptly and professionally. Karl was always easy to contact and would keep us informed as to progress on a regular basis.
• We were particularly impressed with the attention to details. Even the smallest things, such as the colour of an air vent or the joins in the cedar were attended to. One particular instance was to do with the curved roofline and the barge boards where Karl, in consultation with us, ensured that the barge board was made to seamlessly curve rather than being sectionalised.
• Reliability has been a key feature. When something is agreed on or organised then we knew that it would be done and done properly.
• The site and our building was kept tidy at all times.
We know that there are a lot of builders out there and that there is a lot of competition. If you are looking for a builder who listens, provides valuable advice, project manages well, keeps you involved and in control, and whose team does a professional job to a high standard, then we suggest you employ Karl Kampenhout as your builder and project manager.

He carefully managed the different phases of the construction such that there was seamless coordination of the many contractors involved which resulted in an absolute minimum of any time delays during the building process. Ultimately the project ran on time and within the projected budget which I attribute to Karl’s expertise and thoroughness. The quality of construction ultimately resulted in several building and architectural awards.

Smith Alteration
We engaged Karl Kampenhout to carry out Building Alterations to our House in Flagstaff. After discussions with Karl we decided to proceed with a Charge up Contract over a Full Contract. The job proceeded in a very professional and friendly manner. Karl was able to offer suggestions and was easy to communicate with.
Karl carried out the job to a very high standard, the sub-contractors that he recommended and engaged to carry out the work also produced a high standard of work. As we were living in the house at the time the site was always kept tidy and livable. Karl kept in constant contact with us and was always looking at ways of saving us money. The work carried out by the sub-contractors was well co-ordinated and any issues were discussed with us straight away.
The contract ended up coming well under budget which allowed us to build a substantial deck and pergola at the end of the project which was also carried out by Karl.
We would recommend Karl for any building work or alterations and would be happy to talk to any prospective clients. We would not hesitate if in the future we required to carry out further building work to engage Karl.
